Soy Tarts
Things That Make Scents
After receiving a delightful sampler pack from Out Of The Box Sampler, we were recently lucky enough to be able to try two Oh Soy brand soy tarts made by Things That Make Scents). While the packaging is simple and straight forward, we’re talking about a simple plastic container with a no nonsense lid, one bonus of the simple shape is that you can easily cut off a half or a third of the tart, and use only what you need. A word or two about the plastic container: it seemed to keep the melt fresh, and the scent contained until we were ready to melt. While it did take a bit of an effort to get the melt out of the container, once you start to melt them, however, you’ll see why they’re more than worthy of your consideration.
The scents we had the pleasure of receiving were “Chocolate Chip Banana Nut Muffin” and “10k Diamond”. We didn’t know what to expect with the 10k Diamond scent. The name certainly doesn’t bring to mind the familiar bakery and spice smells that we’re used to with traditional soy melts. In fact, the aroma, when you first open the 10K Diamond container is quite surprising. We were unable to define or label the scent however it can best be described as a fresh and clean almost pineapple aroma. Don’t get us wrong, the 10K Diamond doesn’t smell like food and I’d love to know what is in it because it is one of the most pleasant soy melts I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. The smell isn’t quite soapy, rather scrubbed and refreshed. It’s also something that stays enjoyable for a long time; you won’t grow tired of this one quickly. The 10k Diamond scent is a great background aroma to have while you’re taking care of duties around the house and it is a delight to come home to.
The Chocolate Chip Banana Nut Muffin soy melt has a more traditional scent profile. The first smell you’ll recognize is a deep ripe banana one. The nuts show up soon after, and give the banana smell a lot of depth. The nut scent itself is a full, almost roasted aroma. Within ten minutes after starting to melt, we caught the chocolate scent. The chocolate scent really grows throughout, so that by the end of the melt it’s really settled in.
Some soy melts have a very realistic scent, and smell very much like the food they’re meant to portray. Sometimes that’s good, however other times it can be a bit of a distraction, especially if you don’t want to have to run right down to the bakery to get yourself a pie or cake to feed your cravings. This Chocolate Chip Banana Nut Muffin soy melt certainly reminded me of food, without actually smelling like food. So it was easy to keep my appetite in check while still enjoying the smell.
Soy melts from Things That Make Scents are dye free and soy wax is a fantastic and non- toxic alternative that burns for hours and fills your home with a pleasing aroma that lingers for more than a day. Each soy melt from Things That Make Scents are 1.5 ounces, and retail for $1.25.
